RegWatchEurope recommendations to the new European Commission, Parliament and the Council of Ministers

Today, RegWatchEurope has handed over and published recommendations to the three EU institutions. In its recommendations, RWE encourages the Commission and the co-legislators to put competitiveness at the centre of policy making and welcomes the plans to further focus on cumulative costs and SME competitiveness

A key prerequisite is that impact assessments are systematically carried out for all legislative proposals, including substantial amendments by the Parliament and the Council and relevant implementing and delegated acts. The Commission and Member States are recommended to hold systematic implementation workshops and dialogues, both before and after the final act has been adopted, to ensure correct and efficient implementation and application of EU legislation. RWE recommends the introduction of standardised review clauses, stress-testing and reality checks of EU legislation.

- Today, the independent scrutiny bodies in the RegWatchEurope network have sent a strong message to the presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament as well as to several Council constellations. I am hopeful that the EU institution to follow-up on their commitments on burden reduction, competitiveness and better regulation principles, says Anna-Lena Bohm, chair of the Swedish Better Regulation Council and member of RegWatchEurope.
