EU Commission work programme 2024
On the 17th of October, the EU Commission published its work programme for 2024. It contains measures falling under the six priority areas of the von der Leyen Commission.
The work programme consists of 18 new legislative and non-legislative initiatives, 6 withdrawn legal acts and 16 evaluations. The large majority consists, however, of the 154 legal acts under the treatment of the Council and the European Parliament.
Burden reduction is a priority in the programme. This objective will be reach by continuous evaluation of the stock of legislation as well as given particular consideration in the drafting of new legislation. Several concrete proposals aiming at reducing the burdens of reporting obligations by 25 percent, as announced in the EU Commission Communication on long-term Competitiveness External link., are listed in the programme. The proposals concern, for example, reduced frequency for reporting, more exceptions for reporting obligations, reinforced cooperation and digitization and are suggested for a large number of areas.
The Commission also launched a call for evidence aiming at gathering further proposals from stakeholders for the reduction of reporting burdens.
Implementation and enforcement of EU legislation in Member States are also given high priority in the work programme for next year.
